The author originally wrote this book on scraps of old paper.
Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls is one of the best books I’ve ever read. I was fascinated from the very beginning to the very end. Billy, a young boy in the Ozarks, saves up his money for two years, just to buy a pair of good hunting hounds.
After training them, he realizes he got more than he could ever dream of. In fact, his pups were the best hunting dogs in the area. Billy proves that by winning a shiny gold cup at a ‘coon hunting contest.
His dogs cared for each other, and did amazing things that no other hounds would ever do, and Billy rewarded them by going hunting every night, except when the weather was bad. One night, while Billy was out hunting, his dogs chased a mountain lion up a tree which ended being fatal to one of the dogs. Old Dan nearly died until he got home, where he did die. Little Ann, the other dog, got so upset about that that she starved herself and then died.
I loved this book because I had never really known about people who lived in the mountains. I was intrigued by the dogs behavior, and Billy’s decisions as he faced obstacles that not many other ‘coon hunters did. This was truly a classic book. |

it seems like an interesting book to read because i want to know how good of a relationship did the dogs have with their owner.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite part of the whipping boy was when the prince and jemmy became kinda like friends.My least favorite part of the book was when jemmy and prince brat were taken by hold-your-nose billy and cutwater.i would recommend the whipping boy to anyone who hasn't read it because to me it seems to be an interesting book because it was interesting to see two different people of two different life styles become friends and seeing them helping each other out.

ReplyDeleteThe review will not make me read this book bcause it was sad at the ending.The reviewer should have made it more interesting by talking more about the great things the dogs did.
ReplyDeleteThe Whipping boy was a very interesting read and I will recommend it because it talk about the adventures of a prince in the forest. The best part of the book that I like is when the prince returned to the castle with Jemmy and they became friends.I did not like the part where they were captured by the outlaws.

Yes it makes me want to read the book, but not really because it is sad hearing the dog died. The book was enjoyable because it seems a lot cool living in the mountains. Well to be honest I didn't like the book. I recommend that reading the part the prince Horace and the whipping boy go to the forest.

ReplyDeleteid prefer the whipping boy better because the whipping boy ran away with prince horace and the king was worried sick about the prince and every thing that the prince did it was on purpose because he likes it when Jemmy gets whiped from the sildors in front of the king and prince brat.
yes it makes me want to read to book more because it sounds very similar to the story at camp shcimdt(i think thats how u spell it)

briannaberry53 It makes me want to read more because when it talks about Della J and her story it kinda reminds me of the whipping boy and to me i love the whipping boy book and movie its really amazing to me that it makes me want to buy the book and movie . what i liked about the whipping boy is its interesting the pictures , the characters , and the role the characters played . I also liked that there was a lesson at the end of the story. I did not dislike anything in the story , it was amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteLitzy Rodriguez 53: The paragraph the girl who wrote the review got me interested the read the book because the book seems interesting because some dogs don't get along but Billys did get along.The Whipping Boy is a great book because there was a prince that was disrespectful to the royal subjects, which causes the whipping boy to get in trouble. I Liked the whipping boy because at the end the whipping boy become friends with prince Horace.Also i know this is not a question but I enjoyed the whipping boy movie because the movie explained more information then the book.I enjoyed the book and movie....:D .

My favorite part about the Whipping Boy is when a bear called petunia scares Hold-Your-Nose Billy and Cutwater , the thief . My least favorite part about the Whipping boy is when jemmy was getting treated bad in the castle. I would recommend the story ,"The Whipping boy" because it is funny and the ending is good .

The reviwes made we think that the book is really good because they are saying that tit was the best book and it was a good book. I thnk that The Whipping boy was hard to under stand ,but my favoite part is when they found potunya, the dancing bear!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DeleteYes it does want me to read this book again because the pssage sounds really interesting and kind of scary.What makes this passage enjoyable is that there is a mystery that is interesting.My favorite part of the Whipping Boy is when Jemmy and Prince Brat make it safely to the castle at the end of the book and the movie.My least favorite part was when the father could not go horsing with Prince Brat because he had more important things to do.I would recommend the Whipping Boy because its funny and because some things you dont expect the prince to do.

DeleteSARAH SALAZAR MOD 53 No I don't want to read the book because it seems kinda strange of how a person dies and a dog dies just for starving its own self. My favorite part of the whipping boy was when they became friends and started to not be angry with each other. My least favorite part was when Prince Brat wanted the whipping to cry when he got whipped. I recommend that when they left the castle they should have first got there clothes and brought blankets to warm them in the night.

ReplyDeleteI do not want to read this book because how Joshua said that it was boring and I agree.The reviewer could had made this much interesting because they could had made it or the auther could have made it a little funny.A little review about The Whipping Boy was a little complicated to read because it had some languges that people from this day would not understand.My favoriye part of this book like Aleasa said was that when the dancing bear came out my least favorite part was when Hold Your Nose Billy and Cutwater started to eat because it sounded disgusting.
